Run by JoJo from her home-turned-baking studio, I headed down to try out one of her baking experiences. This is her famous, and most popular French Macaron Making Masterclass (mmm).
JoJo is firstly, the most bubbly and friendly master baker that you’ve ever met. Her passion for running amazing classes, with a relaxed approach, is second to none. Her guarantee of fun and delicious goodies in each of her classes gets the AVA tick of approval.
We learnt that Macarons are an art: precision and timing is the key to the perfect bite. We weighed out all the ingredients, had the ability to go with a huge variety of flavours and colours (we chose Pistachio and Rose) and got to work.
Beating egg whites, folding through dry ingredients, piping onto the tray and crafting buttercream is just a quick rundown of the steps we went through throughout the class. Having a few glasses of bubbles to inspire ultimate creativity and putting on some 80’s music is my insider secret to the perfect Macarons. (Disclaimer: May or may not actually help).
After we’d scientifically baked the Macarons, we piped the buttercream into the centre and voila! Our Macarons were ready for their photoshoot – and to be eaten of course. I got to take home around 20+ macarons, which was amazing and JoJo guarantees you’ll have at least 12 (for those heavy-handed people).
All in all this was an amazing experience and I’ll be back. Maybe bread or truffles next time. The beacons of GBBO have been lit, and Sam shall answer!
